Egypt, US discuss Gaza,  regional crises in Blinken-Abdelatty call – Dailynewsegypt

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed regional crises, including the situations in Lebanon, Gaza and Sudan, during a phone call on Tuesday, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

The call took place as Abdelatty was in Tehran for the inauguration of Iran’s new president.

The two top diplomats emphasised the need for stability in Lebanon and stressed Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions on the Lebanese-Israeli border. Blinken expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role and outlined US efforts to support Lebanon.

On the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid and progress towards a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that establishes an independent Palestinian state. The two officials discussed ongoing mediation efforts to secure a truce, exchange prisoners and increase humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty and Blinken expressed hope that recent ceasefire talks in Switzerland would lead to an end to the violence and allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The ministers also discussed bilateral relations, with Abdel Aty expressing Egypt’s desire to strengthen ties with the US in the political, economic and military spheres. The two countries agreed to enhance their strategic partnership and increase communication in the coming period.
