Egypt leverages international expertise for urban development financing, management: Kouchouk

Ahmed Kouchouk, Egypt’s Minister of Finance, said that the country actively sought to harness international expertise to enhance the financing and management systems for its urban development projects. By maximizing cooperation with global institutions, Egypt aimed to support sustainable and comprehensive urban expansion initiatives.

 

In his meeting with Anna Claudia Rosbach, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program, Kouchouk said that “mixed financing” enhances the role of the private sector in achieving comprehensive urban development. He also noted that the United Nations Human Settlements Program plays a prominent role in integrated and sustainable urban expansion at the regional level.

 

Additionally, he said that providing the required funding ensures the goals of sustainable urban development are achieved – an essential step to generate jobs, improve the living conditions of citizens, tackle challenges that may face the development process, and take steady steps towards the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

 

For her part, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, said that Egypt is making great efforts to hold the World Urban Forum. She added that the event is receiving all kinds of support from the Egyptian government, and that a new sustainable system for cities is underway in Egypt.

 

She stressed that the World Urban Forum’s goal is to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, to ultimately reach tangible results represented in sustainable cities and communities, and improving the lives of citizens.
