Israeli airstrikes intensify in Gaza, leaving dozens of casualties

The Israeli occupation army has escalated its airstrikes across various regions of the besieged Gaza Strip, resulting in a significant number of casualties. The army has called for the evacuation of residents in parts of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza while intensifying attacks in the Nuseirat camp and around Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahyia, in the northern Gaza Strip. Additionally, several homes were destroyed in the Jabalia camp.

According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the Israeli military has committed two massacres over the past 24 hours, with 19 confirmed dead and 69 injured. This brings the total death toll to 44,805, with over 106,000 people wounded, since the war began on 7 October 2023.

Meanwhile, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is set to visit Israel, Egypt, and Qatar this week in an effort to negotiate a ceasefire and detainee release agreement ahead of the U.S. presidential inauguration in six weeks. According to Axios, Sullivan is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials to discuss these issues.

On Tuesday, a high-level Israeli security delegation, led by Mossad Chief David Barnea, visited Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials regarding the ceasefire and a potential prisoner exchange deal. The delegation included the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, and Israel’s Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, and discussions centered around the first stage of the prisoner release agreement being indirectly negotiated with Hamas.

Additionally, Qatar has resumed communication with both Hamas and Israel, with Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari confirming that negotiations are ongoing to secure a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
