Zahi Hawass unveils ‘Cleopatra: The Truth’ VR experience in Milan
In a landmark cultural event at Milan’s Palazzo Reale, renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass announced the launch of “Cleopatra: The Truth”, an innovative virtual reality (VR) experience that brings Queen Cleopatra’s life story to audiences through immersive technology.
The press conference drew prominent diplomatic and media representatives, including Walid Othman, Consul General of Egypt in Milan, and Walid El Battoty, Global Ambassador of Tourist Guides, alongside nearly 150 journalists.
Developed in collaboration with Kathleen Martinez—currently leading excavations at Taposiris Magna in search of Cleopatra’s tomb—the project seeks to uncover the historical truth about the queen. Hawass emphasized that Cleopatra should be remembered not only as a legendary figure but as a powerful monarch, exceptional political strategist, and one of history’s most captivating personalities.
The global premiere of the two-hour VR experience is scheduled for 1 November 2026 in Milan. Audiences will embark on an immersive journey through Cleopatra’s life and enduring legacy. Following its debut, the production will move to Cairo before embarking on a world tour, offering international audiences a unique opportunity to explore Egypt’s history through cutting-edge technology.
