BRICS Games: 97 Nations Set to Compete in Kazan – Dailynewsegypt
More than 4,000 foreign participants from 97 countries are expected at the BRICS Games in Kazan, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said following a meeting of the organising committee for the preparation and holding of the BRICS Games. TV BRICS reported, citing the official website of the Russian Government.
Kazan, Russia is preparing to host the BRICS Games from 12 to 23 June, with an unprecedented 97 countries confirming their participation. Over 4,000 foreign athletes are expected to compete in 27 different sports, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
“The BRICS Games, held on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, are an important component of our country’s presidency plan in the association, and 97 countries have already confirmed their participation in them,” Chernyshenko said, as reported on the official website of the Russian Government.
Russia has also developed the BRICS Kazan Sports Charter, a document that sets out the framework for sports cooperation within the BRICS group. The charter will be discussed at a meeting of BRICS sports ministers on 22 June, with representatives from China, UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, India, South Africa and Brazil expected to attend.
The BRICS Games are expected to attract a total of 5,000 participants, with over 4,000 coming from countries outside the BRICS bloc. “On behalf of the organising committee, the Russian Sports Ministry has formed the final sports programme taking into account the applications received. It includes 27 sports,” said Russian Deputy Sports Minister Alexey Morozov.
The list of participating countries includes more than 50 nations outside the BRICS group, such as Kazakhstan, Turkey, Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bahrain, Congo and others. A total of 380 sets of awards will be up for grabs across 29 disciplin
