Egypt accelerates localisation of advanced manufacturing technologies

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah El-Din Mostafa affirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing the political leadership’s directives to accelerate the localisation of modern manufacturing technologies across various sectors, increase local content, and generate added value for the national economy. These efforts are being pursued alongside continued initiatives to attract further investment and enhance workforce skills, enabling the Ministry of Military Production to fully carry out its core mission as a cornerstone of military manufacturing in Egypt and one of the state’s key industrial pillars.

The remarks were made during an inspection tour of Abu Zaabal Engineering Industries Company (Factory 100 – Military Production), where the minister reviewed production progress on the ground and followed up on the implementation of previously issued directives aimed at improving performance. He was present at the start of the working day to monitor employees’ adherence to work schedules and the execution of the daily production plan.

During the visit, the minister inspected several production lines, as well as the operating hangar responsible for manufacturing components and assembling the barrel of the K9 howitzer. The company plays a vital role in meeting the Armed Forces’ needs for various calibres of heavy and medium artillery, rapid-deployment assault bridges, special steel and armoured steel. It also makes use of surplus production capacity to manufacture a range of engineering products, including cold- and hot-rolled steel plates, steel billets, components for waste-to-organic-fertiliser plants, and corrosion-resistant water and fuel tanks.

In addition, the company contributes to the implementation of several major national projects in cooperation with various state institutions.

During the tour, the minister received briefings from Bassem Salman, Chairperson of the Board, and the company’s work teams, who outlined production and performance indicators for the previous period, inventory levels, maintenance activities, industrial safety procedures, and adherence to specified timelines for ongoing projects. The minister also listened to employees’ demands and proposals related to the production process, urging them to continue exerting dedication and sustained effort.

He directed officials to ensure the provision of a supportive working environment that enhances performance and productivity, while reinforcing the company’s vital role in strengthening national security and supporting the national economy.

The minister issued several directives, stressing the importance of maximising the optimal use of available resources and assets, attracting additional investment, and implementing quality standards at all stages of the manufacturing process. He also emphasised the application of governance principles, the rationalisation of expenditure, strengthened internal controls, strict adherence to maintenance programmes and schedules to preserve the efficiency of production lines and extend their service life, and full compliance with project timelines.

Furthermore, the minister underscored the necessity for all employees to adhere to industrial safety requirements and to use protective equipment while performing their duties, particularly given the nature of work involving high temperatures and direct interaction with complex machinery and metal-melting and forming equipment.
