Egypt denounces Netanyahu’s remarks, cites humanitarian efforts in Gaza
Egypt condemned remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to an American media outlet, characterising them as containing “false claims, deliberate misinformation, and unacceptable distortions”.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement criticising Netanyahu’s comments, saying they contradicted Egypt’s humanitarian efforts in Gaza since the beginning of the conflict.
Egypt cited its facilitation of urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians, including the entry of over 5,000 trucks since the ceasefire. The aid included essential supplies and facilitated the passage of wounded individuals, injured civilians, and those with dual nationality.
The statement asserted that Netanyahu’s remarks aim to deflect attention from alleged Israeli violations against civilians and the destruction of vital Palestinian infrastructure. The ministry specifically referenced hospitals, educational institutions, and electricity and water facilities. Furthermore, the statement condemned what it described as Israel’s use of “siege and starvation as weapons against civilians”.
Egypt categorically rejected any statements alluding to the displacement of Palestinians to Egypt, Jordan, or Saudi Arabia. The ministry expressed solidarity with the people of Gaza and their right to defend what it called their “just and legitimate cause”.
The statement reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to established Egyptian and Arab principles, which include the Palestinian people’s right to a state based on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
