Egypt reaffirms commitment to Palestinian rights, Gaza reconstruction: Madbouly to Palestinian PM

Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to Gaza reconstruction and supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and an independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, during a meeting between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa.

The meeting focused on the reconstruction of Gaza following the recent conflict. Both leaders rejected any proposals involving the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.

This comes as Egypt voices strong rejection to US President Donald Trump proposal of relocating Palestinians outside of Gaza Strip. Egypt warned Israel on Thursday against implementing any plan to displace Palestinians, rejecting such proposals and initiating a diplomatic effort to prevent their realisation.

Attending the meeting with Madbouly were Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity. The Palestinian delegation included Ziad Hab Al-Reeh, Minister of Interior; Wael Zqout, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation; Samah Hamad, Minister of Social Development; and Diab Al-Louh, Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt.

Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s position, as declared by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, rejecting any proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza. He emphasised Egypt’s commitment to working with regional and international partners to rebuild Gaza and advance Palestinian interests, including the unification of the West Bank and Gaza, ultimately supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967, borders.

Mustafa expressed gratitude for Egypt’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, including humanitarian aid provided since the war began on 7 October 2023. He echoed Madbouly’s rejection of any displacement plan and underscored the importance of Gaza’s reconstruction.

He also expressed appreciation for President Al-Sisi’s affirmation of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and acknowledged the support received in this regard from the international community.

The meeting also covered the Palestinian Authority’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with international institutions, to assess the war’s damage in Gaza, identify reconstruction needs, and provide support to the Palestinian people. Mustafa confirmed the his government’s collaboration with UNRWA to restore services to Palestinian refugees in Gaza.

Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment, under President EA-Sisi’s directives, to utilise its resources for Gaza’s reconstruction, highlighting the potential contributions of Egyptian companies to this effort.

The two sides agreed to maintain ongoing communication to monitor Gaza reconstruction efforts.
