Egypt reconstitutes board of State Information Service

Egypt has reconstituted the board of directors of the State Information Service (SIS), appointing a former presidential spokesman as vice chairperson and including prominent academics and heads of major state-run media outlets, a presidential decree showed.

SIS is currently chaired by Diaa Rashwan.

The new board is composed as follows:

  • Ambassador Alaa Youssef, appointed as vice chairperson of State Information Service board. Youssef is Egypt’s former ambassador to France and a former official spokesman for the presidency. He has more than three decades of experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
  • Nevine Kamel, editor-in-chief of the French-language newspaper Al-Ahram Hebdo. She is the first woman to hold the position and has many years of experience in French-language media.
  • Soraya El Badawy, dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University. She has over three decades of academic and research experience in various theoretical and practical fields of media.
  • Mohamed Fayez Farahat, chairperson of the Al-Ahram Foundation and former director of the Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies. He is an expert in international and Asian political relations.
  • Mohamed Fahmy, editor-in-chief of the English-language publications The Egyptian Gazette and The Egyptian Mail. He has decades of experience in the field of English-language media.
  • Abdel Moaty Abu Zeid, an advisor to the chairperson of the State Information Service for foreign media. He is an expert in international political relations and foreign media, and the former head of the foreign media sector at the SIS.
