Egyptian, Saudi Foreign Ministers discuss regional cooperation

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on March 10 with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, to discuss regional cooperation and key issues.

The ministers followed up on the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab Summit held in Cairo on March 4, with a focus on the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.

They discussed ways to rally international support for the plan, given its widespread acclaim from various countries, and explored methods for implementing its various phases and components.

They also addressed developments related to Egypt’s hosting of an international reconstruction conference in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations. The aim of the conference is to mobilise the necessary funding for implementing the Arab plan.

The two ministers also discussed recent developments in Syria, particularly the tensions in the Syrian coastal regions. Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for the Syrian state, its sovereignty, and the unity and integrity of its territory.

He stressed the importance of preserving national institutions in Syria and the need to adopt an inclusive, Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political process that ensures the participation of all segments of the Syrian people without exclusion. The process must also guarantee the rights of all sects in order to restore stability throughout Syria.
