Gaza government reports 158 journalists killed amid ongoing Israeli aggression
The Gaza government’s media office reported that the death toll among journalists has reached 158 since 7 October 2023. Throughout the Israeli aggression, journalists have been subject to relentless attacks by Israeli forces, which directly impact them, their families, and the media organizations they work for.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the Gaza war has become the deadliest period for journalists since 1992. As of 1 July 2024, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed that at least 108 journalists and media workers have been killed in the Israel-Gaza conflict. This marks a significant escalation in violence against journalists, surpassing any previous conflict. The International Center for Journalists also reported the highest levels of violence against journalists in 30 years during this war. They called on Israel to cease killing journalists and investigate incidents of violence against them.
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that the attacks carried out by the Israeli occupation against the journalists in the Gaza Strip require a firm stance from the international community, as five journalists have been killed within the last 12 hours.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported three massacres, resulting in 29 deaths and 100 injuries in hospitals within 24 hours. Overall, the number of victims of the Israeli aggression has risen to 38,980 people dead and 705 injured since 7 October 2023.
In response to the Israeli aggression, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said that it, in conjunction with the Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, targeted the Israeli occupation command and control site in the Netzarim axis, south of Gaza City, with several short-range missiles.
Al-Qassam announced that it had targeted an Israeli Merkava 4 tank with an Al-Yassin 105 shell east of Al-Nazaz Street in the Al-Shujaiya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City.
The Al-Quds Brigades also said that they killed and wounded an Israeli force of 7 members during a surprise clash with them in the Shujaiya neighbourhood.
