Hamas: ‘complete flexibility’ to reach Gaza deal 2nd phase
“We are demonstrating complete flexibility to reach the second phase of the Gaza agreement while upholding all of its terms,” said Taher El-Nounou, media advisor to the head of Hamas’s political bureau, in response to potential pressure from US envoy Steve Witkoff during his upcoming visit regarding the Gaza agreement.
El-Nounou also said, according to Al-Qahera News, “We appreciate any effort that prevents the Israeli occupation from proceeding with its plan to derail the completion of the Gaza agreement.”
He further stated, “If Netanyahu and his associates are allowed free rein, they will destroy the entire region. He must be compelled to move forward with the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza agreement.”
Witkoff intends to travel to Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday evening in an attempt to broker a new ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. This comes as Hamas urges all parties to fulfil their obligations under the original agreement and to begin “immediately” with phase two talks. Hamas has also announced its acceptance of an independent committee to manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip until elections can be held.
Witkoff is expected to join Egyptian and Qatari mediators, as well as negotiators from Israel and Hamas, who will begin discussions on Monday in an effort to reach a new agreement, according to two US officials who spoke to Axios.
