How did you feel upon receiving recognition from the Ministry of Health for your recent achievements?
I was pleasantly surprised by the recent recognition bestowed upon me by the Ministry of Health. It was truly an honour to be selected among a distinguished group of individuals who have made significant contributions to society.
What are your reflections on the success of the movie “Al Serb”?
We are grateful for the film’s success, as it sheds light on the heroic actions of the Egyptian Air Force, which holds great significance for our nation and the Arab world. Our involvement in the film was a meaningful contribution, and we aspire to continue creating works that honour the bravery of our army and the sacrifices made for our security and freedom. It was a source of pride for us that the film was dedicated to the martyrs of Egypt.
What motivated the shift away from the familiar social drama genre, which audiences are accustomed to, in favour of introducing the comedy series “Farawla” this year?
Initially perceived as a comedy, the series delves into significant subjects, albeit in a lighthearted manner, aiming to bring a smile to the audience’s faces while conveying its message. I was thoroughly pleased with the experience and the responses received.
Why did you choose the Farawla scenario over any other option?
The scenario introduced new and unique content, sparking widespread interest in energy therapy. The series also aimed to provide a blend of positive energy and comedy, recognizing society’s constant need for humour. In doing so, it sheds light on an important issue that people encounter daily.
Have you deliberately chosen to step away from social drama for a period and instead showcase lighthearted comedy?
It’s not entirely accurate, but it’s essential to recognize that artists should continually evolve and adapt their work. Offering fresh and unique ideas to the audience is crucial. Why repeat the same formula repeatedly? While it’s possible to blend genres, such as mixing comedy with drama or tragedy, the key lies in adding novel and distinctive elements to maintain audience interest. We always strive for innovation in our content, even though it can be challenging, especially with annual series.
Certainly, but not specifically due to the series. Some time ago, I participated in energy sessions to explore the subject’s advantages and disadvantages. This exploration was particularly important because there has been an increase in individuals exploiting energy practices in ways that deviate from genuine energy science. Unfortunately, some view it solely as a means of financial gain, preying on vulnerable individuals.
Was it necessary to have more than 15 episodes to cover all the events in the series?
If circumstances had allowed, the director and writer would undoubtedly have proceeded with more episodes. However, the scope of a 15-episode work differs significantly from that of a 30-episode one. A shorter series allows for a more relaxed approach, without the constant pressure to film and present events simultaneously. This convenience benefited both myself and the series crew.
What are your thoughts on the competition during the drama season?
My primary focus is on the artistic works I will be presenting. While I do keep up with other productions, my attention centres on the character and the specific work I’ll showcase. Ultimately, we all invest considerable effort, and it’s up to the audience to choose which works resonate with them. This applies not only to the drama season but also to the presentation of any new artistic endeavour.
What motivated you to pursue directing as a field of study?
Ever since I embarked on my journey in acting and portrayed various roles on both the big screen and stage, the idea of directing has always intrigued me. Therefore, I decided to delve into the intricacies of directing. I am grateful to say that I am currently in the process of creating my short film as a director. My goal is to take my initial steps towards success in the directing realm, as I believe it is where my true passion lies. Just like acting, I have a deep love and enthusiasm for directing. I pursued directing out of my love for the craft and the numerous benefits it offers me.
Have you already agreed to the terms of the contract for the film “Al-Sitt”?
I am set to make a special appearance in the film Al-Sit, centred around the life of Umm Kulthum and featuring the talented Mona Zaki. The movie is helmed by Marwan Hamed and penned by Ahmed Murad, with production yet to commence.
How would you assess your advertising experience from the time you began until the present?
The selection of companies to endorse a particular celebrity, especially those with international recognition, serves as a clear indication of the artist’s significance and influence. Companies must have complete trust in the celebrity they choose for their advertisements, as the audience’s trust in the celebrity is crucial for the success of the campaign. I only endorse advertisements with a humanitarian purpose or products that I have personally tried. While advertisements can benefit an artist, they can also have negative consequences if not carefully considered or if the direction of the advertisement is ineffective. The direction of the advertisement is just as important as the product being promoted.
Have you developed a stronger connection with social media recently?
My connection with social media has been weak for quite some time; however, I enjoy sharing new photos of my work or snapshots of myself at events like memorials, festivals, or parties. I prefer not to be constantly active on social media. I am not fond of spending all my time on it, and I do not disclose much about my personal life through social platforms.
How much change do you observe in society as a result of it?
Social media has undeniably integrated into society’s fabric as a result of the widespread use of the Internet among the majority of individuals, leading to a situation where information is readily accessible to everyone. No piece of content can circulate on social media without catching the attention of a large portion of the population. Consequently, a subset of individuals has emerged whose primary focus is to gain popularity. Regardless of the nature of the trend, they strive to be part of it. Therefore, I believe that one of the drawbacks of social media is the extent to which it can influence our behaviour.
