Egypt launches Red Sea Open to boost tourism, international profile
Egypt is set to launch the Red Sea Open, a new international golf tournament aimed at boosting the sport’s profile in the country and the wider region, the Egyptian Golf Federation announced.
The Red Sea Open, to be held at the Sokhna Golf Club, will feature more than 100 players from 35 countries, and is designed to combine sports with tourism, promoting Ain Sokhna as a premier destination for golf and leisure tourism.
“The Red Sea Open represents a new milestone in the federation’s journey to consolidate Egypt’s position on the global golf map,” said Omar Hisham Talaat, president of the Egyptian Golf Federation. He noted that the tournament is the first in the “Egypt Golf Series,” organised by the federation for the first time under the umbrella of major international tournaments aimed at promoting sports tourism and supporting the national economy.
Omar Hisham Talaat highlighted the federation’s ambition to host the largest possible number of tournaments in various Egyptian cities and golf courses. This, he said, would help expand the base of golfers and enhance the infrastructure for the sport, opening new horizons for Egyptian youth to participate in international tournaments.
He noted that the three previous tournaments organised by the federation in October and November saw the participation of over 300 male and female players from about 70 countries, generating more than 2,000 tourist nights. Social media viewership for these events exceeded 5 million views, reflecting the growing international interest in golf in Egypt.
Omar Hisham Talaat affirmed that the Egyptian Golf Federation considers this success part of a national goal to serve the Egyptian state by supporting sports tourism and developing sports investment. He stressed that more international tournaments are planned within the “Egypt Golf Series,” which will enhance Egypt’s regional and international presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.
Omar Hisham Talaat also thanked the previous board of the federation for its sincere efforts and expressed his appreciation for the organising committees and volunteers who contributed to the event’s success. He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in player selection through open qualifiers.
