Iranian and Indian Foreign Ministers discuss strategic partnerships – Dailynewsegypt
In a significant diplomatic rendezvous on Monday, 15 January, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian engaged in discussions with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in Tehran. The meeting, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS, delved into the augmentation of both bilateral and multilateral collaborations within the frameworks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS.
Amir-Abdollahian took to his social media accounts to share insights into the deliberations, stating, “Reviewing the growing bilateral and multilateral relations within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS, we discussed the state of strategic ties, the development of Chabahar port, and the importance of the North-South transit route.”
Meanwhile, Jaishankar highlighted the discourse on India’s enduring engagement with the Chabahar Port and the North-South International Transport Corridor (INSTC) project during their bilateral conversation.
Earlier in his visit, Jaishankar met with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash. The discussions underscored the significance of India’s long-term involvement in the Chabahar Port and the strategic INSTC project.
The North-South International Transport Corridor, described as a multi-modal transport route, connects the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea through Iran. It further extends to Northern Europe via St Petersburg, as elucidated in a press release from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. This underscores the emphasis placed on enhancing connectivity and fostering economic ties between the two nations.
