KONE and Arab International Optronics sign agreement to develop sustainable urban infrastructure in Egypt

Elevator and escalator manufacturer KONE and Egyptian industrial manufacturing company Arab International Optronics (AIO) have signed a strategic letter of intent to collaborate on smart mobility and sustainable infrastructure projects in Egypt.

The signing ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Finland’s Ambassador to Egypt Riikka Eela.

The agreement establishes a framework that combines KONE’s people flow solutions with AIO’s industrial and technological capabilities. The partnership aims to explore opportunities supporting future-ready mobility solutions, industrial innovation, and sustainable infrastructure development across the country.

The letter of intent reflects KONE’s confidence in Egypt as a strategic hub for growth, innovation, and industrial development, supporting the government’s Vision 2030 initiative to develop sustainable urban communities through advanced infrastructure.

“This Letter of Intent represents an important step in strengthening collaboration between global expertise and Egyptian industrial capabilities to create long term value for the local market,” KONE Egypt Managing Director Ahmed Fathi said. “Through working closely with AIO, we aim to remain close to customer needs and support the development of reliable and future-focused mobility and People Flow solutions that contribute to the country’s evolving urban landscape.”

Fathi added that shaping the future of cities begins with creating safer, smarter, and more seamless experiences for people, noting that strong collaborations play an essential role in realising that vision.

The Chairman of Arab International Optronics stated that the agreement demonstrates the importance of combining international expertise with domestic industrial capabilities.

“At AIO, we believe strategic collaborations play an important role in supporting national development priorities, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable long-term impact,” the chairman said. “This Letter of Intent reflects our shared commitment to supporting Egypt’s continued urban and economic development through innovation, advanced technologies, and future focused collaboration that contributes to shaping smarter and more sustainable cities.”

Through the agreement, both entities stated their shared ambition to support Egypt’s urban transformation by exploring opportunities across smart mobility and advanced industrial solutions to create more digitalised and sustainable cities.
